ASSERTIVENESS SKILLS

What makes this course different?
Assertiveness is not just about asserting yourself (aggressive, sarcastic and arrogant people can do that). It's about how you interact with others to be a better manager, colleague, team member, specialist, company representative etc. That makes this course relevant to submissive people, aggressive people and people who just want to develop their interpersonal skills.

Here are some of the things they learn:
  • The importance of assertiveness as a life skill
  • The difference between aggressive, submissive, passive-aggressive and assertive behaviour
  • How we are perceived by others
  • Body language and assertiveness
  • The four cornerstones of assertiveness
  • The two ways information enters our brain and the effects of each on how we react to others
  • Trigger behaviours from other people and the effect they have on us
  • Understanding what makes us behave the way we do
  • Distinguishing between learned responses and pre-programmed responses
  • The behaviour ice berg, rights, paradigms and self esteem
  • How to reprogram your thinking quickly and easily
  • Practical assertive techniques; how and when to use them
  • Self-defense against manipulators
  • Using assertiveness to improve professional and personal relationships
  • The big obstacle to implementation and how you can overcome it
Learning methods
The learning environment is safe, relaxed and fun. There are numerous, voluntary small group exercises to practice skills and plenty of time to reflect on what has been learned and how it will implemented.
