PRACTICAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS

What makes this course different?
Leadership is probably the most studied yet least understood topic in management. I do not pretend to have discovered leadership's 'Holy Grail' but when people tell you that they have learned more of practical value in the last hour than they did in a whole week at a prestigious management college, you begin to feel you're on to something. This course makes leadership accessible to each participant.

Here are some of the things they learn:
  • How leadership and management differ and how they overlap
  • The three aspects of all management jobs and their relationship to your 'comfort zone'
  • Why the leadership aspect won't work on its own
  • Different approaches to understanding leadership and what we can learn from them
  • Identifying your 'minds eye' goal
  • Different approaches to understanding people at work and what we can learn from them
  • How a team differs from a group and how you can influence that difference
  • The part emotions play in motivation
  • 44 ways to motivate people, build teams and get the job done
  • 'Moments of truth' and your leadership credibility
  • The 10 traits of effective leaders and your self assessment
  • Leadership and the future
  • Your leadership challenges, performance goals and implementation plan
Learning methods
This is a very participative programme. Critical aspects of practical leadership are examined through case studies. Participants are encouraged to discuss their current work environment and review their current leadership skills and actions and to plan how they will transfer what they have learned to their jobs.
